I visited Lone Star BBQ on Saturday 9/9/17, I have heard may good things about this place. I have friends in Quepos Manual Antonio telling me how good the food was. When I arrived the place was nearly full, the smoker was fired up and the smell of great BBQ was in the air! You see, I'm from Kansas City, MO. the home of great BBQ and I believe my standards are very high, I might be considered a BBQ snob. Well I'm here to tell you I was not at all disappointed with the quality of the food, the seasonings, the bbq sauce and the wonderful service, infact I was very impressed! I stared off with the ribs and baked beans. The meat was falling off the ribs, they were vary large and loaded with a great smokey flavor! Then I dug into the beans they too were outstanding with a little bit of spice to kick it up a bit. I then tried their homemade coleslaw......WOW it was amazing and fresh. The man at the table next to be said he had the homemade sausage sandwich 3x's a week. I then asked for a small side order of their sausage. It had the perfect combination of spices and blended meats to offer a excellent texture and flavor. The place was extremely clean and well ran. There were people loading up on to go orders of meat to take home with them. I will be back for sure and I would highly recommend this place. You will not find a better true Texas style BBQ place in all of Costa Rica! The prices are great for the quality of food and the amount you get. It's a must try! PURA BBQ VIDA!
Myself and a friend noticed the place early in the morning. On our way back from Panama we were hoping it would be open. We got there right as they were opening on a Wednesday afternoon. I knew at that time of day we wouldn't be getting fresh off the grill food.
We ordered chicken, brisket, ribs (no pulled pork available ) mac and cheese, beens, onion rings and potato salad.
First thing that got my attention was the beautiful smoke rings on the brisket, I dove into the mac and cheese first, absolutely delicious. The meat, even though I know it was heated up was absolutely incredible. The beans and Mac and cheese were delicious . The potato salad was okay but nothing special. The onion rings were hand cut and delicious. Great staff. When we were leaving the owner showed up, we thanked him for a delicious meal. Last thing I asked him before getting in my vehicle, "where did you learn to BBQ " Houston Texas was his answer.
I love this place and will plan trips around it, and I am sending all my friends here. I want to go on a busy night when the smokers are smoking.
